Wire to crank sensor - quick question 700 1991

I went to FCP Groton, and I see that this is something that needs to be replaced. I tried my best to tape the small wires, but the more I pull back the outer cover, the more bare wires there are. It is just rotten.

I did get it to run, but it would barely idle ..then when I tried to give it some gas, it acted like it might want to backfire a bit.

Are my findings so far indicating replacement of this part?
