Tests ..sounds good

You are right. I should have the tests done you mention before I remove the head.

This thing of the water being pulled low in the reservoir is what makes me think it is the head gasket, and was also thought to be so by another BB contributor. I have thought it could be a thermostat acting up, but as yet have not really explored that option - ceptin putting in a new one.

I just know that neither of my other bricks, one a 760t & the other a 245 pull the coolant down like the 940 does.

I change the oil, and have never noted any coolant in the oil. I will remove the t-stat totally first and then go with other tests, unless what I have said here gives a new direction.
