Battery notes 900

NC heat and an interior light left on overnight zapped the remaining life out of the old battery such that it would not hold enough charge to start the car after sitting a day.

I had replaced a second 5 year old Interstate battery with a Walmart EverStart MAXX24FN, last check, made by Power Controls. I do not know if this cat number indicates the plus/ground orientation so if you decide to buy one, bring in a sketch and check.

I always buy batteries by maximum size. I have this same battery in several 940s, a na LH, a Rex/Regina and possibly in the turbo. The footprint is the largest possible for the tray and it was quite a bit taller and wider than the Interstate battery it replaced. When I pulled the old battery I noticed the EverStart is was quite a bit heavier too. A taller battery usually means the plates are higher off the bottom to help prevent shorts caused by sediment and the larger size in this case really means more lead.

A few installation notes:

Be careful with the small tube coming off the radiator. A friend broke one during an installation and ended up replacing the radiator.

Many years ago I thought the red and green felt battery protectors were snake oil. They work. A buck a pair.

Most often used receipt? Batteries are hit or miss. Consumer Reports mag differs on best brands every year and labeled CCA are more often bogus numbers. Keep the battery receipt in a sealable lunch bag glued to the side of the battery.
