I have a problem with my 1985 740 GLE non-turbo not wanting to start sometimes. It's kind of hard to figure out what's going on. It doesn't happen often but usually when it does I've driven it for about 8 miles on my way home from work. Stop at the grocery store. Then drive it the one mile to my mail box. Get my mail and then it doesn't want to start. If I let it sit for a few minutes it starts right up and I don't have any trouble with it for a while. There have been a couple of times that it does it when it's cold. So far I haven't had any trouble with it once it gets started. Usually starts right up,good performance, idles fine at stops, no rough running. It's almost as if the car is flooded but I never pump the gas or even put my foot on the pedal when I start it. Any suggestions as to what it might be or if any of you had to deal with the same situation? My brother seems to think it's the fuel filter but wouldn't I have other problems with it and wouldn't it happen more often it this was the case. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
