Confused about polarity on fuel pump upgrade 200 1983

My newly acquired and newly running '83 245 wagon has been suffering from fuel starvation. I pulled the fuel sending unit and discovered only remnants of the original hose above the fuel pump. I decided to upgrade the pump while I was at it, and picked up an equivalent of the IPD #3517845 larger capacity pump out of a junked '95 960 today (this one is actually made by AC Delco).

The pos/neg designations are on the opposite side of the cylinder from the wires and that's got me confused. The wires are red and black. My best guess is that the red is pos. Does anyone know for sure which is which so I can do the install just once? I should have paid closer attention at the yard, but I was crammed in the back of a hot trunk. Thanks a bunch!
Jim
