Synthetic oil for better mileage, etc.? 700 1987

Hi folks,

I was wondering if my '87 740GLE would benefit, in terms of efficiency, from a diet of synthetic. I have 250k miles, and evidence of a little blowby (see my post on 'Smoke out of oil dipstick'), but otherwise no external oil leaks. A bit of oil consumption after 2000 miles, maybe half a quart. Cam looks varnished.

If I do this, I would do the normal procedure of changing (at least) the filter after 500 miles and the oil again after 1000 or so.

Would I benefit in terms of mileage, etc., or would I be treading where sleeping dogs lie?

Thanks,

Ari
