My 1993 245 wouldn't start at the gas station after a fillup. The code is 2-3-1 relating to lean/rich mixtures. I also got that code a few months ago after stalling out near Times Square after an hour of stop and go traffic. The code was then cleared. Luckily it started and ran fine after it cooled.
I have a two-year old main pump and filter so that part is probably ok. I opened the storage compartment and unplugged the tank pump wires. The pump reads 14 ohms (Black input lead to the Brown ground lead), and the voltage across it is about 9.5V when it is conected during cranking. Since I haven't heard any buzzing from it during startup, I disconnected the pump leads and put a 12V battery right across the pump. I heard nothing, and there wasn't even a small spark (gas tank not yet opened).
I'm going to replace the pump and sender (really rusty tubings) and read a comment on BrickBoard in 2004 that a "bung nut" tool from IPD is useful (is that nut the rotating about 3" flange that seats under a sheet-metal lip?). I also read the replacement can be done with the tank in place. Has anyone enlarged the sheet-metal flooring above the tank for more room?
I would appreciate any comments you would have to keep me from being a fool.
