The other week I replaced most of the wear items in my rear suspension, with the exception of the subframe bushings that I forgot existed when I was ordering parts. Sachs gas shocks, both panhard rod bushings and the fore and aft torque rod bushings, and the forward round control arm bushings. Also added a 19mm sway bar. This is a wagon by the way.
Now I have this thunk on certain types of bumps in the road. It sounds for all the world like something loose, but nothing is. Last night I swapped out the overload springs I had installed for the stock ones, and it *might* be a little less prone to it, but it's still there. I pulled the shocks and the bolts are not overly loose in either shock eye, or in the body. I can't really describe it other than to say it's almost random as to when it does it, and it's a fairly deep "klunk/knock" type sound. Big bumps don't do it, minor one's don't do it, it's somewhere in the middle. I checked the exhaust and it's fine, the jack is secure, the spare tire has it's strap holding it tight, there is noting else back there to thunk. I bounced it around with no shoocks the other night and nothing made any noise, I have yanked it left and right in a rolling motion and nothing, I have loaded it and still heard the noise, I can't find it anywhere. The subframe didn't seem loose when I yanked on it, should I just replace them on principle? I'm stumped. :(
