CSB question.. 700 1987

I replaced my CSB and u-joints about 20K ago on the wagon. It's had the thumpy on take-off thing going since then. I put off bothering with it till now since the rear was sagging. Got the rear done pretty much, it sits level, and my thumpy is still there. Today I shimmed the CSB up a bit, and if anything it's worse. Tomorrow I'll see if it likes being shimmed down, but I somehow doubt it.
I have a couple of questions.

For one I think it was a scantech support, are they crappy enough to maybe be a problem?

Two, are there any kinda guards for dust on these? There is a rubber boot on the rear side where the two shafts slide together which is in good shape, but are there any other guards for dust or crud? I see a listing for a Febi support, which in theory is better quality, but nothing anywhere for dust boots or anything.

Thoughts?
