Thanks for the reply. I compared the relays again and there is a difference in that there is a diode between 85 and 86 (the relay coil), with the cathode on 86. I did try the Bosch and it worked fine. I would guess that the diode is for noise suppression or something like that.

Both relays have the 30 to 87a contact as normally closed. The energized contacts on the Hella are between 30 and 87. I assume it is the same on the Bosch but the diagram is confusing.
