Postive wire to the A/C compressor? 200 1989

Hi all, I hava a 89 240DL that the A/C compressor clutch will not engage.
I traced the problem to the postive wire going to the compressor being broken. It green and then goes into a disconnect with about 6" of black wire that has a broken end. I'm going back to check if I have voltage, but a quick question. The comressor has a small black with white top module with a wire runing to the front pully. I assume that the broken wire connected to this. Can I cut the wire from the module and splice it in to the broken end of the black wire and not have a problem?
When I bought the car 6 months ago the AC was not working, but now that its getting into the 90's it would be nice to have it. It looks like the system is still R12 there is no conversion sticker to 134a that I can find.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
