Volvo 240 200 1989

I am considering purchasing a 240 DL Wagon. 1989, 120,000 miles. The Foreign repair/sale lot for European cars is selling for their customer, and they have done service since 2000. They have made long list over the 8 years and the car is in 'pristine' condition. I have owned a 240 long ago and have heard the reputation. They want $4000.? I want a reliable car and don't want a car payment, nor a trip to the shop every month, since I can't repair cars. The mileage seems low for a Volvo but should I leave 19 year old cars to the 'mechanically handy'? Are Volvo's easy to work on?
