Help, I fear I've angered the Volvo Gods!!! 700

Hey guys,
My ABS light came on in my '88 745GLE. I started by cleaning my battery cables, as they were pretty nasty. Hooked everything back up, ABS light out, then it came back on a minute later or so, followed by a drop in RPM's, seemed like the motor was working pretty hard. Unplugged the black relay on the passenger side behind the ABS modulator(?), the car died right out, and won't start again. Any ideas? I've looked for the mysterious "fuse that blows when jump starting" in the passenger footwell, as listed in the FAQ's, but I don't see ant fuses there, the car listed in the FAQ's was newer than mine.
What, in ABS land would make the car bog down like that, assuming I can get it to start again?

Thanks in advance,
Chris
