That range about 30MPH is interesting and the engine rpm varies widely even when
coasting with no load.
I notice that shifting to neutral while underway (coasting) will lower engine revs. Maybe there's some way to tweak the transmission so it doesn't keep engine revs too high? (other than the kickdown cable)
