Rear axle oil changed - having doubts about the new synthetic oil 700 1989

I changed the axle oil today on my AW71 740T without LSD (AFAIK).

The 1989 manual calls for SAE 80 or 80W-90 meeting API GL5 specs. The 700 FAQ mentions that 75W-90 is alright.

Now, I have put in a full synthetic oil, Castrol Syntrax 75W-90 (API GL5) that's labelled for manual transmissions or hypoid differentials.

The spec sheet is here:

http://www.castrol.com/liveassets/bp_internet/castrol/castrol_australia/STAGING/local_assets/downloads/s/Syntrax75W_90_B1278983.pdf

My hangup is that the old axle oil looks a lot thicker looking than the new synthetic - of course I don't know how long it's been since it was changed since I bought the car used.

Is the new oil suitable you think?

Thanks
Lucast
