Two aternators in a month?? 200 1990

OK here's my story. About two months ago I went to work and my battery was dead. Got new battery and a couple days later dead again. Alternator. Took the one out of my parts car and had about 14 volts at the battery when running. About two or three weeks later the same thing, another dead alternator. What are the chances of that? So I'm wondering if I just got unlucky and had two alternators go bad that close together or could it be some kind of short killing them. Any ideas? I hate to go buy a new alternator just to kill it. What should I be looking for? Thanks guys. 90 245
