Fuel Bleepin' Pump ... 200 1983

I made it home yesterday after being stranded next town over. My troubles were caused by a fuel delivery problem. I did notice a stutter or two as I was nearing my neighborhood. This morning car again would not start.

I know the in-tank pump is working. I removed fuse No. 5 (in-tank) so it would not run and put a spaded jumper wire across No. 30 & 87 connections on my '83 style fuel pump relay. I hopped out and listened at the pump.

The first time it sounded like it was cutting off and on or running weak then stronger. I checked the pump wiring again, lifted the rear seat, checked that connection and ground. I tried starting it and it started and ran for a few seconds then quit and would not restart. I did the jumper wire test again and there was no sound at the pump this time.

Does anyone concur that this sounds like another failed main pump? It's a junkyard pump that I put in yesterday and the one that got me home.

One more thing, I checked FCP Groton and discovered that up to '92 740s & up to '94 940s use the same pump. Are they in the same place on those cars and as easy to get to? Just checking before I make the trek. All thoughts appreciated ... thanks - Jim
