Check engine light 200 1991

When I was about 20, I had taken my employer's van to the dealership for the third time, trying to get some driveability problem solved. Being presented with the truck "all fixed" I spoke up, asking the mechanic to explain what he did to fix it this time.

He said "Oh, it was a Jesus clip." I wasn't totally unfamiliar with carburetor linkage, but taken aback by his quip and asked him to repeat what he said. "It's called a Jesus clip because when you try to put it on it shoots across the shop and you say "Jesus!". A circlip.

The van was finally fixed. Looking back, I suppose it was part of what Click and Clack used as a weekly standard response back in their heyday, "choke pull-off".

That experience was one of those that begged me to be a do-it-yourselfer.
