Hey Shannon .... I am teaching in Wabasca/Desmarais, about 3 1/2 hours north of Edmonton ... our closest shopping center is in Slave Lake about 125 kms to the south west. I sat with a guy coming from Vermillion on the way back to Nova Scotia ... He was shocked that there was no Tim Hortons in Vermillion ... after all he had just finished a stint in Afghanistan and they had one there for the troops ..... MY closest Tims is in Slave Lake 125 Km away ..... I figure that is how I can justify my "Northern (hardship) allowance" LOL I think that falls under the Cruel and Unusual Punishment rules ... I think that the closest STARBUCKS might be in Edmonton ... but I have never cared for their coffee anyway and if I wanted coffee flavoured warm milk I can make it myself ....

PS BTW I can't remember seeing a VOLVO car in the 6 months I have already spent in Wabasca .... there are, however, several trucks and pieces of heavy equipment ... If you want a vehicle to go un-noticed up there it has to be a white, domestic, extended or crew cab, 4x4 of at least 3/4 ton .... There are one or two LARGE TOYOTA and NISSAN pickups but they are definitely the exception.

When I left there Gas in Slave Lake was selling at $1.29.9 a liter .. here in Nova Scotia it was up at $1.44.2 per liter, it has since dropped to $1.40.2. ... The conversion factor to US gallons ( according to what is printed on the top of most urinals in Canada is 3.8 liters /1US Gallon (per flush) ... I'll let you do the math.
