Compressor Seizure 200 1990

Last year I switch from R12 to R134 because it is much more economical than to recharge R12. Today the comprossor froze and I need you help.

a. Is it easier to remove from top or bottom?
b. Can I just disconnect the compressor or do I need to take the car to the shop to discharge the freon?
