adjusting clutch 200 1988

My 240 Wagon has the same cable. It is a threaded jacket on the cable which is adjusted by turning the nut on the inside(towards the rear end).As you are watching the adjustment as the threaded jacket moves away clutch fork it makes for a late release(basically tightening too much) and the opposite action makes for an earlier release. I have found on my car that there is not a whole lot to adjust out of a worn out clutch.
