Rehabbing and Repainting Rear Mud Flaps 200 1985

Our 240 wagon has the rear mud flaps with white paint outlining the 'volvo' script. I'd like to remove them and repaint the white portion so they look crisp and new again - the paint is now faded and scraped in a few places, otherwise they're in great shape. What kind of paint should I use that will adhere well to the rubber? Should I clearcoat over the white paint after I have them painted? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

AP
