adjusting clutch 200 1988

If there is lot of travel in pedal before it starts engaging then it may not be releasing fully, after all travel of pedal is fixed. The little play is needed to ensure that clucth is fully engaged when fully released.

I think the test to check if the clutch is disengaging fully is that rev the car with clutch depressed fully and no power should go to wheels .I can be wrong there as well.

1st, 2nd and reverse are common issues with these transmissions. Your reverse lockout bracket could be misaligned .If you can go into first with that revese lock pulled up then bracket should not be an issue.

The oil is a big thing . I use Redline MTL and it has solved the issue to a great extent (not fully ) including grinding in reverse.
