floor pan repair replace question 444-544

I cut the rear floor pan out of a donor car and am considering
welding it OVER the existing floor pan on the car I am starting
to repair. I would first clean up the old floor pan and use a
rust preservative.
What are your thoughts on this method instead of cutting out
the old floor pan and then welding in the new one.

Ron
