Weird shake after start and Check Engine Light 700 1990

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. I have a 1990 Volvo 740 GLE 16 Valve non turbo with 120K miles and I purchased it Sept 2007. The only problem I have had was my water pump went out about a month and a half ago.
Yesterday I started my car and it started fine but the car shook a little and the car felt like it was going to die about 3 times and the Check Engine Light flashed on about 3 times. The RPM's were fluctuating as well. I then drove off and the Engine Light went away and it drove ok.
I am going to bring the car to my mechanic on Friday but was wondering if anyone has had this problem. What should I tell the mechanic to look for. Is it a sensor?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yoshi
