poor performance from the 960 900

I'm trying to figure out why my aunt's '93 960 isn't running as well as it should. The car seems a little slow to rev up and get going, but is still very driveable. It has 124 K miles and is one owner and well maintained. It had a timing belt done a couple of years ago so I was wondering if one of the cams could be a tooth off and cause sluggish acceleration. Also if you rev the car when it is in park it hesitates a little and the engine just barely starts to knock. I'm also not getting any fault codes/check engine light.

Thanks in advance!

Dave
