Installing extra, advanced coolant temp-guage? 120-130

I would very much like to have an accurate after-market modern gauge that would read an actual accurate temperature.

Howdy,

I am surprised that with all the answers you got on this question that no one offered up that your main reason for using a gauge marked in degrees over one not marked except for Hot and Cold is not valid. The gauges you can get at Pep Boys, et al, are very inaccurate.

See Gene Berg's web site about gauges. He tested all the oil and head temperature gauges that were available at the time. (The company deals only in air cooled VWs.) Not one was accurate. Some were grossly inaccurate.

I am not saying do not run a gauge. You should. But you should also learn to recognize normal -vs- abnormal temperature by the positon of the needle, not the degrees indicated.
