240 Electrical problem...if you dare 200

I hope someone out there has a good mind for electrical puzzles! I have recently replaced my taillights ('90 240 DL), noting that the old ones always seemed to have troubles with their brake lights. I always thought it wqas the 'wiring sheet' Volvo used inside teh taillights...maybe worn and scratched, causing shorts??

The exterior lower right cell of the righthand light was slightly 'swollen' and cracked as if overheated...perhaps prior owner put in wrong bulb size thought I When I installed the new ones, the light in this cell was twice as bright as the driving light on the left...as if the brake was on full time.

More clues: the dashboard warning light for bulbs is lit when the main light switch is in parking lights or full headlights on position...only off when the lights are off.

With the headlights on, the warning light will go out when I depress the brake pedal. With the headlight switch 'off', the warning light comes ON when I depress the brakes.

Not an electrical bone in my body, but I am wondering if there is some mix-up of wires in the harness connector that fits on the taillight wiring sheet?? I hope someone out there can follow the trail.....
