main fuel pump case leaking - anybody seen this before? 200 1984

So I've had this '84 245 sitting for almost a year with the intake off (I was cleaning the injectors but never got around to putting it back together) and decided to get it going again. Since I disconnected the fuel line at the fuel rail, I figured I should flush the line out since it sat so long. I jumpered fuses 5 and 7 to start the fuel pumps and put the open end of the line into a gas can. At first, the gas flowed fine, but after about 20 seconds, it seemed like it was coming out weaker and with air pockets (the tank was not empty). I looked under the car and saw copious amounts of gas dripping from the fuel pump and filter area under the car. After lowering the plate that holds up the fuel pump and filter, I jumpered the fuses again while watching to spot the leak, figuring it was a loose or corroded fitting. But no. Instead, fuel seemed to be spewing forth towards the front of the car from the fuel pump case itself through two pinholes. If you are looking at the pump from the front of the car, the fuel is spewing from the 11 and 1 o'clock positions, right at the edge where the cylindrical side and end cap come together.

It seemed totally bizzare - I cant recall having seen such an odd failure in all my car repair experience. I almost wonder if I am seeing things or misinterpreting what I saw. The case is not rusty or anything, and I cant really see the pinholes, so I am not completely sure that I was seeing what I think I saw. Hence, this post looking for confirmation or an alternative diagnosis from others. If the case really does have pinholes, could I repair it via welding, epoxy, or a JB Weld type thing? I would greatly appreciate any similar experiences you might be able to share.
