Crossmember Issues: M46 replacing M41 200 1975

As many of you know, I'm doing a drivetrain swap on my '75 244 - the B20 and M41 are going out and the B230 and M46 are going in. However, I've hit a snag and need some advice...

I've got the B230 and m46 combo installed, but I cannot get the trans crossmember installed. The bolt holes on the frame are about .5' to 1' too far forward. I opened up the mounting holes a bit on the crossmember itself with a drill, and with a ratchet strap was able to pull the crossmember forward just enough to install bolts, but I just noticed that it tipped the engine mounts forward (they aren't bolted in yet). Keep in mind that I haven't tightened the transmission mount to the crossmember.

I am wondering if the fact that the engine mounts tipped forward means that I'm trying to squeeze in too much or is there normally that much tension between the engine and transmission mounts?
