changed distributor seals, now car will not start 900

just the starter is trying with no response.
So I wanted to change few seals, including distributor big seal and small shaft seal at the tip of the shaft.
I took apart the distributor to see if there's another shaft seal near the base. then put it back together (hopefully right).
Then i also replaced camshaft/intermediate shaft/crankshaft seals. It all went well. I think i put the belt back in in the right way (camshaft mark and crankshaft mark aligned perfectly.
One thing I am worried about is whether i have to put in distributor back in when the timing marks are aligned; does it matter?
Anyway, can, you guys, tell me what to look for when I put the distributor back in? Where should the rotor be pointing to, say, when the timing marks are aligned.
the car is 95 944T with the newer distributor on the head (no Hall sensor).

disappointed myself, apparently
