Good News Report 200 1984

Well, it's been a busy year and quite a while since I checked in. After doing some browsing, I thought a bit of good news wouldn't hurt. Still have my laundry list of things to fix/address, once the money comes (if ever)...still telling her daily to hang in there...but she made another round trip to Augusta, GA from Chicago a few months back. 2,000 miles...still getting dead-on 22.5 mpg with lots of gear, at 75mph (no A/C...my compressor is dying/dead).

On another note: my rear door is complete, but her years are numbered, as the rust is getting significant at the bottom edge. Anyways, about a year ago I went to open the latch and heard a "sppprriinnnggggg". No more working latch. Ho-hum. Spent 365 days climbing over my stuff to open from the inside...or, when loaded with big stuff, folded an empty towel-paper roll and layed it over the latch loop. The wonderful, heavy, steel door never budged. When I'd forget to cover the loop, after loading...say a dresser...then things got fun. I got good at doing my mouse-through-a-pinhole imitation. So about one month ago I tried the latch...silky smooth...been working ever since, and the key-lock works again, too. Go figure.

Since I'm here, I have a quick question. When the temps began to warm this Spring, I'm having a starting issue. My Indie says I'll probably need new plug wires & cap, and/or ignition coil. When she sits overnight, the first crank does nothing. On the second crank she fires right up. Even if she sits for several hours, she still seems to fire right up. It's only first starts in the morning. When the temps get below 50 degrees, she starts on the first crank. Anyways...I'm just dealing it for now. But any insights so I don't have to waste money "throwing darts", would be much appreciated.

In closing, it's been over 2 years since I bought Olga, my first Volvo...and the love affair continues to grow. She's got beauty marks, but hey, so does Cindy Crawford.
