cooler air 1800

It has been suggested on many chat lines that getting cool air to the carbs will enhance performance. I am working on a 1968 1800S with 3 bolt SU's on it. Rather than use the standard airfilter/cleaners, I was thinking of using the aircleaner system from a 120 series to try to bring air in from the front of the car. Any thoughts? Does anyone have such a system in use? Does anyone have such a system they might want to get rid of??

Thanks
