Oil wells where the spark plugs go - 16 valve 700 1990

We've had the 90 GLE for about 14K miles, and today I replaced the spark plugs for the first time. Not that I thought it was necessary - the car has been performing well - but I'm trying to squeeze every MPG I can. My first experience with a DOHC, by the way.

All four spark plug wells were soaked with oil -even the wire connectors had oil about an inch up the tip. I was thinking about joining OPEC.

I've searched the Brickboard, and found that this is not that unusual. I also looked up the cam cover gasket and discovered that there is a separate gasket for the spark plug wells. I'm guessing it's time to renew that gasket.

Any thoughts on gasket brands, sealants, special procedures, and other stuff I should consider replacing while I'm in there would be appreciated.
