Flooded floor pans 900 1995

Does your 960 have the glass sun/moon roof?

If yes, the leak is in the seal between the rubber and the glass. Where the water drips in it will not fall into the trays that empty into the drain tubes. Clearing the drains, while a good thing, will not stop the leaks. Therefore searching for the drain outlets is moot. I still don't know.

Next rain check the "A" pillars, right and left, for wet covering. Check for moisture/wetness in the cloth-covered trim panels above all the door windows and maybe down the "B" pillar, too.

We ran this gauntlet with my 1997 965. We found a sheet of plastic that would cover the sun/moon roof, and got some (8) magnets to hold it on with. We used it every time possible, tho it was useless when driving at over 5mph.

If you are driving in rain, open the sunshade and look at the front corners of the sunroof opening. That's where we could see the water getting in. We kept a supply of paper towels handy, using one rolled up and stuffed into each corner to soak up rain. On long trip we would up with 8 or 10 rolls drying out
on the dash.

Keep the sunshade open as much as possible. The leak got water on the topside of the headliner (major flow from the dome light upon accelerating). Headliner is, I think, made from pressed wood, and very susceptable to water damage. (Our headliner has a small sag now.) The open sunshade can catch some of the water and it's less expensive than a wagon headliner.

We put up with that protocol for two years while I searched for a good used roof. Found one in a wreck in Austin (350 round mile trip) and now a dry car is just great!

Check junk yards, disassemblers, eBay and all other sources for 960 wrecks and/or parts cars, 1995 or newer, and also S/V90 cars too. The sun/moon roofs are the same. Installation is a breeze. Find a roof and ask me how. Maybe by then I'll be able to send you (email or fax) the pages from the Volvo Service manual for this job.

The sun/moon roof seal cannot be replaced. Dealer will tell you that a new roof is needed, at a price around $800+ plus installation. Urk Urk.

Good Luck,

Bob
