While sorting through my large accumulation of 740 parts, in preparation for sale of most of the hoard, I happened to take a look at a 240 seat and a 740 seat side by side. It appears to me that it just might be possible to mount the 240 seat tracks to the bottom of the 740 frame. Possible enough that I think I'm going to give it a try, as 740 seats are better in just about every way than 240 seats (bigger, comfier/cushier, less prone to mechanical/structural failure, and easier to find in the junkyard) AND because I have a pair of very nice blue velour GLE seats (and some extra 240 seat tracks) that nobody seems to want to buy, that would make a fine upgrade for a 245 (with split blue vinyl) that I'm in the process of fixing up. (of course, I would then have to find a cloth back seat for the 245, in slightly non-matching checked cloth)
The only real difficulty I can forsee is that the height adjustment mechanisms are completely opposite in their mountings---the 240 mechanism is mounted to the tracks and the locking pins engage holes in the seat frame, while, on the 740, it works in exactly the opposite way---the mechanism is on the bottom of the seat, the holes are on the track part. Because of this, it may be necessary to eliminate the whole mess, and, after deciding on the height I want, bolting it permanently in place.
I will take plenty of pictures during the process, and if I can make it work, post a detailed write-up.
