rear wiper and washer not working...but wipes once when the car is started!?!? 200 1988

On my 88 240 wagon, my rear wiper and washer has now gone from working on occasion to not working at all...except for when I first start the car: the wiper gives one swipe and stops. Turning the switch on and off does nothing. My front wipers and washer work fine. The fuse is good. Is the problem the wiring harness that travels through the tailgate, the wiper motor, or the stalk with the wiper controls? Or something else? Thanks in advance.
