1998 S90 Aircond problem S90-V90 1998

I suspect the valve is stuck open. I never got the sensor all the way off, but it spewed more and more as I loosened it a couple of short turns so I closed it back down.

Is the freon hazzardous to me or just to the atmosphere? Should it be sucked out to replace the valve?

Am thinking the next step is to a professional mechanic to replace the valve behind the sensor and to recharge the system.
