Rear ended! (bumper question) 200

So I got rear ended today while leaving the auto parts store. Guy managed to hit us pretty hard for just being in a parking lot. Anyway, bumper is pushed in on one side (he hit us at a bit of an angle). Am I correct in assuming that this means the bumper has done its job and is now toast and needs to be replaced? That is, its not going to pop back out and be ready to go again.

And second question, are the rear bumpers and mounts and all the same on both wagons and sedans? I've replaced a bumper on a sedan, but never really looked at the wagon.

Thanks!
