I wouldn't worry about the drier unless you've left the system open for a long period of time. The reciever/dryer has 2 purposes : it collects liquid R134a so that it is not pulled into the compressor, the second thing it does is collect any moisture in the system. It basically has a desiccant bag sitting at the bottom of it. They really don't go bad unless they have been exposed to the atmosphere when moisture (humidity) can get in (more than the desiccant can handle).
