Fluid level ... 200

First, the AW71 was only installed with turbo engines (last 200 turbo was '84 or '85), so you've got the AW70.

But with hard shifts when cold, I'd first suspect low fluid level (low, it actually delays the upshift and then shifts hard, at least until the fluid warms and expands closer to the proper level).
Secondly, dirty fluid is another possibility -- how long since a fluid flush on your car?

Really figuring the proper level is harder than most people realize, mainly because they don't really know the actual fluid temperature (guesses are usually wrong), which affects the level a lot (as can be seen on the levels shown on the scales on the opposite sides of the dipstick).

To deal with the temperature factor and therefore get the most accurate measure of proper fluid level, see my article in Rolling, Vol. 24, Issue No. 4, pg 29, July/August 2006. If you don't have it, write back with your e-mail and I'll e-mail back a .pdf attachment.
