Can ATF type F be used as power steering fluid ? 200 1982

I am replacing my P/S hoses as my old ones leak like a sieve.I have been topping it off with the ATF type F I normally use in my M-46 transmission. Since I have a couple of bottles already, can I use it as power steering fluid ?I was told this is OK at the Strauss Store.
Car is a 240DL w/ 4spd+OD & 4-cyl gas. 182K miles.
