Charging light on dimly at idle...... 200 1986

This morning as I pulled into work, that my charging light was on dimly while at idle. When I gave it some gas, it went out, only to come on dimly again. I check the belt tension and it was fine. The alternator is about 7 yrs old from Autozone and I replaced the brushes about 4 yrs ago. My battery is about 2 or 3 yrs old and I don't have any starting issues. Should I take it to Autozone and have them do a charging system check? Will that tell if the brushes are in need of replacement or if there is another issue? I'm getting ready for a 1000 mile trip next week and want to address this before getting underway.

Thanks for looking and any advice.
