Catalytic converter cost 200 1984

Hey there-


How much would a new catalytic converter for an '84 240 cost? I just came from my mechanic's shop, and he told me that the car will need a new converter in order for it to pass VA emissions. I had a feeling there was something going on when I got it back the other day and was told it had failed the emissions test.

I'm not a big fan of these emissions things- where I come from in VT, we don't require it at all. In VA, I don't know. I knew it wasn't the engine, though, as it's idling normally and running fine.
