1987 740 engine/tranny-what can I swap this into????

I have a 1987 740 GLE engine /tranny out of my Mom's car which was hit with just 60K on it. What can I swap this engine into? I would like to put it into a newer 240 or 940 series car. Can this be done since my engine is pre- camshaft sensor? I have the whole car available for parts.Would it mean just swapping in the ECU and wire harness? If anyone has done this I'd appreciate hearing from you-Thanks.
