oil cooler 120-130

My engine is a B-18 in a 65 122. The engine has an oil cooler fitted around the oil filter. Appears to be between the filter and the block. From what I have read the 1800 cars came with this cooler not the 122's.

My question is: can I remove it and direct fit the filter as if the cooler was never there. ? I can see the metal hose going into the head and that is an easy plate from a scrap engine. The lower hose is easy also, just wondering what is behind the cooler itself.
