Fuel Filter time 700 1988

Hey Guys,
I've decided to change my fuel filter in my beloved '88 745, and am a little concerned about the fuel feed line from the pump to the filter that breaks when you change the filter. Being cheap(by need rather than nature)I can't see spending $40 bucks for that tiny bit of fuel line and a couple of fittings. Any reason I couldn't just replace the fuel line and reuse the old fittings? I've got some plastic fuel line from my Saab lying around from the last fuel filter change on it, they sure look to be the same size.
Anyone know what size the line is?

Thanks for the help?
Chris
