no unswitched power to 14 pin radio connector - inline fuse somewhere? 700 1992

Hey guys
This is a pristine all original wagon that has never been messed with by any audio installers. In the course of removing the radio about 5 times to work on the MCC unit (resolder pins on the on-board ac relay), I developed a dead CR-814. I swapped it out with another known good CR-814 and still dead - no prompt for the security codes, nothing. I put in an older model TD something radio and it prompted me for codes and then worked but everytime you turn on car need to put codes in again, so I discovered there is no power at the connector for unswitched power. Checked both fuses that mention radio - both good. Checked all fuses in case - all good. So now the question: Where could I have lost this unswitched power? Maybe somebody with a green book can trace it? Does it go thru something else that might have failed or is there another in-line fuse somewhere? I can route a new unswitched wire of course but I hate to go start cutting wires and there must be an explanation.
Thanks,
Robb
