How to check strut mount/bearing? 700 1988

Hey guys,
I've been trying to chase down the source of the weirdness in my steering wheel('88 745), feels kinda dead, little loose at the top and when turning into a corner. By process of elimination, I've come down to the strut moounts. I've wiggled and pried on everything with the car in the air, the outer tie rods are new, the rack feels good, and the steering coulumn u-joint feels tight. The ball joint are good (it just passed inspection!). I haven't got much left, the tires are in good shape, although I don't like them much, they have a pretty square shoulder to 'em.
Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris
