Strut rod rear washer? 900 1992

Hi All
I have removed my strut rods to replace all the bushings, yes including the rear press in bushing and no it didnt really look like it needed to be replaced. But anyway It all came apart fairly easily but two questions. First, what I am assuming is the rear washer seems fairly well stuck to the strut rod...it is a seperate washer not part of the strut rod right? Second, the pass. side control rod hole(where the strut rod bushings go in) was bright and shiny inside as though there was lots of play between the bushing and the cotrol rod yet the bushings were nice and new looking.....howcome?
Thanks
Matt
